Commissioning Preparation of the Newly Built Metro

Highlights

During 2018-2019, PSA was involved in a landmark project helping design a new rail line within an extremely congested metropolitan area. A 23-mile extension of the existing public transit system would provide improved access to the airport, as well as to jobs and shopping facilities. The client intended to expedite the project schedule, and PSA had been entrusted to prepare the newly built line for commissioning by developing the relevant documentation.

Challenge

Client Challenge

Validate seamless and issue-free operation of the ATC system between 11 stations of the newly built metro line.

Project Objective

Prepare field testing procedures for validation of the correct interlockings operation within the ATC system.

Solution

Having the ATC system designed, the client needed extensive due diligence. Thus, our dedicated signaling engineers worked in tandem executing the final review of the newly-developed design documentation of the ATC system. Guided by the client’s requirements and procedures, we provided a complete review of:

  • Hardware Design, including track circuit schemes, block diagrams, control circuits, power distribution circuits, and so on

  • Software Design, ensuring the correct operation of interlocking applications at all 11 stations

Every update required was agreed upon with the client and was implemented as per their business processes.

For the ATC system to be independently validated, our signaling engineering team developed a complete set of testing datasheets defining the procedures to be followed when testing the interlocking system at locations having power-operated switches and controlled signals. 7 types of tests cover all aspects vital for interlockings’ V&V, such as performance logic and power calculations.

PSA delivered procedure documentation and datasheets for 11 stations to be validated. Datasheets created would allow the ATC system to be tested both as a whole and through its subsystems to verify its safety, compliance with the specifications and utilization of best signaling design practices.
